LOST
One sister vanished. One night is missing. Everyone wants Ru to stop looking.

01 / The hook
It begins like an abduction story.
It becomes a psychological trap.
After a blinding flash on a remote northern road, Ru wakes hundreds of kilometres away, injured and alone. Her sister Anna has vanished. The police call it shock. A doctor calls it hallucination. The town calls it something to leave alone.
Ru follows the gaps in her memory into a system of quiet rituals, inherited symbols and people whose care begins to feel like containment.

From short to feature
Not an expansion.
A transformation.
The completed short asks, “What happened to me?” The feature begins after the encounter, makes Anna’s disappearance the urgent centre of the story, and asks a darker question: “Who needs me to believe the wrong answer?”
Watch the original short film02 / The narrative engine
Three absences
make reality unstable.
Each mystery is immediate and easy to follow. Together, they keep shifting the meaning of what Ru thinks she knows. Every answer should make the next question worse.
- 01Missing person
Anna is gone. Ru’s objective is concrete, emotional and urgent: find her sister.
- 02Missing time
Ru cannot account for the hours around the flash. Her body carries evidence that her memory does not.
- 03Missing geography
She wakes far from where the night began. Distance becomes evidence that something impossible happened.
03 / The central pressure
Her body knows
before her mind does.
LOST is about what happens when the world tells you that the thing your body knows is impossible.
Ru is not written as unstable. She is a capable, sceptical woman placed inside an environment that systematically makes certainty impossible.
04 / Human behaviour
The town is frightening because
it behaves almost normally.
No one plays sinister. Control arrives through care, protocol, delay and plausible explanations. Every person believes their behaviour is justified, even when kindness, diagnosis or routine becomes a way of containing Ru.
The audience is always given one reasonable explanation too many. Suspicion should feel slightly embarrassing until it becomes unavoidable.

05 / Tone and direction
Dread,
not noise.
The audience should feel watched before they ever see who is watching. Threat accumulates through pauses, repetition, bureaucracy and small inconsistencies rather than spectacle.
01Real first. The supernatural never excuses weak human behaviour.
02Slow pressure. Tension grows through what remains almost reasonable.
03Violence has weight. When the film hurts, consequence remains.
04Ambiguity has rules. Every recurring image and sound carries narrative logic.
06 / The cinematic language
The camera gets calmer
as Ru loses control.
Instead of using shaky camera as shorthand for panic, the frames become more composed as Ru destabilises. The world looks certain while she is not. Subjectivity enters through focus drift, reflected doubles, light clipping, repetition and what the frame refuses to reveal.
ImageHeat outside. Fluorescence inside. White where memory breaks.
SoundCicadas, fluorescent hum, fan blades, freight trains, copper bells and Orthodox liturgy.
RhythmPatient holds, practical eyelines and physical geography slowly contaminated by absence.

07 / Mythology
Romanian folk memory
inside an Australian thriller.
Folklore arrives through things Ru and Anna grew up around, not as an exotic mythology dropped onto the story. Objects come before explanation, allowing family memory, protection and ritual to become intimate sources of uncertainty.
- 01Thread
Family, protection and inheritance.
- 02Bell
A sound that should not belong where it is heard.
- 03Mask
Identity made collective.
- 04Liturgy
Heritage, ritual and terror in the same acoustic space.
- 05Circle
Movement that becomes containment.
Development direction
Build the film around pressure,
not spectacle.
LOST is being shaped as an authored, female-led psychological thriller with a disciplined production model. The next phase is to complete the screenplay around the psychological and cult engine, attach producing and development partners, and build the audience, finance, casting and location pathway around the film’s specific identity.
